ISLAMABAD: Sindh will have seven judges among the Supreme Court’s total 17 judges after the elevation of Sindh High Court Chief Justice Mushir Aalam to the apex court.
Justice Alam’s name was recommended for appointment as a judge of the apex court by the Judicial Commission at its meeting on Monday.
The commission, which met with Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in the chair, also recommended elevation of Justice Maqbool Baqar as chief justice of the Sindh High Court.
According to a list of judges available on the Supreme Court’s website, there are seven judges from Punjab, six from Sindh, two from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one is from Balochistan.
After the elevation of Justice Aalam, there will be seven judges from Sindh to the apex court.
Justice Chaudhry will retire on Dec 11. According to the seniority rule, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani will become the new chief justice, who will remain in office till July 5, 2014.—APP
