ISLAMABAD: The top military leadership of Pakistan Tuesday discussed the operational situation at the borders and vowed that territorial integrity of the country would be safeguarded at all cost, said an ISPR press release.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC) meeting, presided over by its chairman General Khalid Shameem Wynne, discussed the emerging geo-strategic environment and internal security along with matters related to tri-service operational readiness at length.

The meeting of the military’s highest coordination forum took place a day after a unanimous decision of holding talks with Taliban militants was taken by politicians and military leadership in the best national interest.

Besides the internal threats being faced by the country, tensions had also flared up last month in the heavily militarised Kashmir valley with the nuclear-armed neighbours pointing the finger at each other.

Both Pakistani and Indian military had accused each other of violating the de facto border called Line of Control in a series of violent confrontations in Kashmir.

Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt along with senior military officers from the three services attended the meeting held at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi. . The JCSC is a platform to discuss, exchange and evaluate opinions of services chief on the operational preparedness of the armed forces.

Being a quarterly moot of senior military leadership, it focuses on all the issues related to the national security challenges being faced by the country.
