Major reshuffle in Sindh police

KARACHI: The Sindh government made some sweeping high level changes in the provincial law enforcement apparatus on Thursday with a major reshuffle of key officers in the police department.

Among other notable transfers was the appointment of a new police chief for Karachi.

According to DawnNews, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah ordered the Inspector-General Sindh Police to shuffle police officers throughout the province as he was not satisfied with the performance of the current officers.

According to a notification issued by the government, the changes include the transfer of four additional IGs and 14 deputy IGs.

In Karachi, the top level changes include the appointment of Shahid Hayat as Additional IG or police chief in Karachi, as well as the transfer of three key DIGs. The new DIGs include Javed Odho as DIG West, Abdul Khaliq as DIG South and Munir Sheikh as DIG East.

Former Additional IG Ghulam Qadir Thebo has been transferred to the office of Addiitonal IG Traffic, while Bashir Memon has been appointed as Additional IG Development and Zakir Hussain as Additional IG Special Branch.

Meanwhile, the major transfers in the ranks of DIGs include Amir Sheikh as DIG CID, Arif Hanif as DIG Sukkur, Sharjeel Kharal as DIG Larkana, Ghulam Sarwar Jamali as DIG Crime Branch Hyderabad, Sanaullah Abbassi as DIG Special Branch Karachi, Mushtaq Mehr as DIG Headquarters, among others. The SSPs of all districts have also been transferred.
