KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has expressed satisfaction over pace of the targeted operation ongoing against terrorists and criminals in Karachi.
Presiding over a law and order meeting on Wednesday, he directed the police and Rangers, engaged in the operation, to go against the terrorists more belligerently to eliminate the menace from society.
The chief minister said that achievements made by Sindh Police and Rangers have also been recognised by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the civil society. However, he added that people of Karachi and Pakistan expect more results from them.
He showed his optimism that the law enforcing agencies engaged in the operation were strong enough to come up to the expectation of the people for which Sindh government will provide every legal and administrative support to them.
Appreciating the efforts of Sindh Police for preparing list of 500 known criminals, Shah directed to make it public with head money, which is to be recommended by the provincial home department.
He assured that the Sindh government will take care of legal heirs of the assassinated Sindh police officials by providing jobs, residential plots and Rs2 million to each effected family.
Rs230 million financial assistance for effected families was announced by the chief minister who also directed the home department for providing safe and secured housing facilities to the police officers facing a threat.
Taking notice of the burst of violent incidents during last 72 hours in Karachi, Shah termed it a conspiracy to dismantle sectarian harmony and to divert attention of the law enforcers. “But we wouldn't allow them to run safely,” he added.
He, however, expressed reservations over the performances of prosecution side and said that proper convictions of criminals would prove deterrence against crime.
Besides, 200 new prosecution officers and 200 investigation officers were also being inducted to strengthen the system, he added.
Earlier, Inspector General Sindh Police Shahid Nadeem Baloch briefed the meeting about the performance of police during the ongoing targeted operation.
