LAHORE: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Saturday said the local bodies’ elections should be administered by the judiciary and that PTI would be introducing a biometric system for local government polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, DawnNews reported.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Khan said if the local body elections were not administered by the judiciary, he would challenge the process in the Supreme Court.
He also said that his party would protest against rising inflation on Dec 22. The PTI chief said protest was a democratic right of his party, adding that if the PTI was stopped from holding demonstrations then those hindering them would be responsible for the consequences.
He said democracy could not be confined to a single family but in Punjab most major positions were handed over to people based on nepotism instead of merit.
On the topic of local government elections, Khan said the PTI-led government in KP would introduce the biometric system to administer local bodies’ polls.
Khan added that he would personally approach the Supreme Court for repolling on four National Assembly seats.
The PTI has been pushing for recounting of votes in constituencies of NA speaker Ayaz Sadiq (NA 122-Lahore V), Water and Power and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif (NA 110-Sialkot I) and Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq (NA 125-Lahore VIII).
For that purpose, Khan sought the verification of thumb impressions through the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and emphasised the use of biometric system.
