KARACHI: Eight people including four Local Bodies (LB) candidates and two policemen were killed in the city on Sunday, DawnNews reported.
As the nomination process for LB elections closed, seven candidates have been killed in the city in separate targeted attacks, including the four aspirants shot dead on Sunday.
All four men had recently submitted their paper for the LB polls. The victims include Qari Liaqat, a peshimam of a mosque who was killed in Baldia Town, Gulshan-e-Ghazi, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf worker Qari Jaffar who was shot dead in SITE area, Mohammad Iqbal, who was killed near Qasba Mor and Pakistan Muslim League–Functional candidate Nayyer Mohammad who was killed in Sarjani.
Last week, a Local Bodies candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was killed while in a separate attack, two LB candidates of Majlis-e-Wahadat-e-Muslameen were also shot dead.
In yet another attack, an Awami National Party candidate remained safe. However, two policemen were killed in the said attack.
DawnNews reported that two men were killed during an exchange of fire between rival groups in Mowach Goth. Meanwhile, two policemen lost their lives after unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on them in Baldia Town.
Meanwhile, the targeted operation by the Rangers also continued in the city. Rangers claimed to have arrested eight men including the mastermind of recent targeted attacks in the city.
The security forces also recovered a huge cache of arms during a raid in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and arrested 5 men. The arrested accused are said to have links with a leading political party.
