ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday rejected a petition seeking to restrain former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf from travelling abroad to receive medical treatment, DawnNews reported.
IHC's Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui rejected the application submitted by the Shuhada Foundation and advised the petitioner to contact the trial court to file an application.
It is pertinent to mention here that Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had earlier said that the federal government was the plaintiff in the treason case and that on no account would the former president’s name be removed from the Exit Control List (ECL) and that there was no pressure from Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates in this regard.
Earlier on Jan 3, petitioner Haroon Rasheed, who is the son of Lal Masjid cleric Ghazi Abdul Rasheed, had requested the court to instruct the federal interior ministry to provide the former president with the best medical facilities in the country and bar Musharraf from exiting Pakistan, according to a spokesperson of the Lal Masjid Shuhada Foundation.
The petition had furthermore said that Musharraf had several important criminal cases pending against him, including one relating to the murder of Rasheed Ghazi and had sought to make the federal interior minister, the interior secretary, Islamabad's Inspector General Police and the head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) DIG Khalid Khattak parties to the case.
