Judicial commission proposes CJ PHC as SC judge

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Monday made recommendations for the appointment of Chief Justice Peshawar High Court (PHC) Dost Muhammad Khan as a Supreme Court judge in the aftermath of former CJ, Justice (retd) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s retirement.

The commission also recommended the nomination of Justice Fasihul Mulk – the most senior judge after Justice Khan – as chief justice of the PHC.

The meeting of the JCP was presided over by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and was also attended by Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Heritage Pervaiz Rashid – who also holds an additional charge of the ministry of law and justice commission, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Pervaiz Khattak, Attorney Gerneral Munir A. Malik and members of the commission.

With induction of Justice Khan as a SC judge, the total number of the apex court judges, including Chief Justice Jillani, has reached seventeen.
