ISLAMABAD: An accountability court on Friday extended physical remand for five days of the former Inspector General (IG) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police Malik Naveed to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Former KP police chief Malik Naveed was presented today before Accountability Court’s Judge Wilayat Ali Shah Gandapur.

The former IG is accused of embezzling a staggering amount of Rs1.82 billion in the procurement of weapons and vehicles for the province’s police department and has remained in the custody of NAB since the past 50 days.

Malik Naveed was arrested by the NAB on Nov 20.

On Jan 3, the court extended Malik Naveed's remand by seven days to the NAB.

The NAB counsel had earlier remarked that under the NAB Ordinance, an accused could remain in the bureau's custody for maximum 90 days.
