Three TTP militants killed in Karachi

KARACHI: Three militants, including Amanullah Mehsud who operated as chief of the Tehrik-i-Taliban in Karachi's Quaidabad area, were killed in a police encounter in the city's Musharraf Colony on Friday, DawnNews reported.

The militants, including Mehsud, were affiliated with Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), police said.

Mehsud was the chief of the Taliban in Quaidabad and the other two militants have been identified as Mirza Ali and Sher Mohammad.

The militants were killed nearly a day after a powerful explosion claimed the life of senior police official Chaudhry Aslam Khan.

Chaudhry Aslam, who had survived numerous assassination attempts in the past, died along with two other officers when the bomb targeted his convoy on the Lyari expressway in Karachi.

Cracker blast in Malir

Also on Friday, three suspects were injured in Malir's Millat Town when a cracker bomb that they were making exploded.

Following the explosion, police arrested all three and recovered bomb-making material from the roof of the mosque.

ANP leader injured in attack

In Quaidabad’s Future Colony, two people, including a local leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), were injured when unknown men attacked the leader’s house with a hand grenade on Friday, television reports said.

Police said unknown men hurled a hand grenade at the house of ANP leader Aziz Khan, leaving him and one other person injured.

The injured were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.
