ISLAMABAD: Speaking to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Monday expressed his grief over today’s bomb blast near the General Head Quarters (GHQ), adding that the government has decided to take difficult decisions in order to establish peace in the country, DawnNews reported.

During the telephonic conversation with the COAS, the prime minister said he shared the grief of the dead soldiers’ families and the efforts to exterminate terrorism would continue.

The premier also told the army chief that the cabinet members would gather and discuss the internal security situation of the country.

Nawaz added that a bill on the issue of national security would be discussed in the cabinet meeting and adopted soon.

Moreover, the premier and the army chief also discussed the offer of talks with militant organisation Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

President Mamnoon Hussain in favour of talks with TTP

While speaking to DawnNews, President Mamnoon Hussain said holding talks with Taliban could possibly pave way for a solution to terrorism and the growing incidents of terrorism were agonising.

President Hussain said that the alternative of a military operation would be used as a last resort.

The president further said the government was serious in solving the issue of terrorism and the possibility of talks with Taliban was our last hope.

After Jan 19, Bannu attack, the TTP claimed responsibility and its spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said in a statement that his organisation was ready for “sincere and meaningful” talks with the government. “Despite having suffered heavy losses we are ready for meaningful talks”, the statement said.
