ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on Judges’ Appointment in the Superior Courts on Monday night failed to reach consensus to ratify the recommendations of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) due to lack of information from concerned authorities and shortage of time.
The parliamentary body met here under the chairmanship of Senator Farooq Naek to discuss recommendations made by the JCP in its meeting held on January 6.
Other members of the committee Senator Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Senator Haji Mohammad Adeel, MNA Syed Naveed Qamar, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk were also present in the meeting.
Senator Naek, after attending the committee meeting, said that there was a 14-day time to ratify the recommendations, adding that the committee has sought reports from different agencies.
He said that due to insufficient information, committee failed to reach any consensus.
Now, the recommendations of the judicial commission would be meant as approved and to be sent to the President House for final approval.
The JCP had made recommendations for the appointment of Chief Justice Peshawar High Court (PHC) Dost Muhammad Khan as a Supreme Court judge in the aftermath of former CJ, Justice (retd) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s retirement.
The commission had also recommended the nomination of Justice Fasihul Mulk – the most senior judge after Justice Khan – as chief justice of the PHC.
