WASHINGTON: US Special Representative Ambassador James Dobbins met with Pakistan's Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday and discussed bilateral cooperation, withdrawal of US forces from the region, drone strikes and Afghan peace talks while reiterating its appreciation for Pakistan's support on Afghan reconciliation.
The meeting was also attended by Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and the prime minister's adviser on foreign affairs and national security, Sartaj Aziz.
Sources said that Prime Minister Sharif apprised the US envoy over Pakistan's stance on drone strikes and conveyed to him that the drone attacks were unacceptable to the nation.
Ambassador Dobbins, who is special representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, earlier met with Afghan officials on Monday and would also be traveling to New Delhi as part of his regional visit.
Dobbins is tasked with leading US talks with the Afghan Taliban, who last week opened their political office in Doha.
