ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has increased the electricity tariff by Rs1.01 per unit. The increase is in addition to the Rs1.08 per unit raise the regulator announced on Jan 27.
The cumulative impact of the increase will be Rs2.09 which consumers will have to pay in bills for February.
As a result of the decision, all power distribution companies (Discos), except the Karachi Electric, will get an extra Rs15 billion in February.
The regulator has issued a notification on the fuel cost incurred for thermal power generation in December. The tariff has been increased under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism.
On Jan 27, Nepra issued a notification for fuel adjustments incurred on thermal power generations in October and November last year.
People consuming up to 50 units a month and consumers in Karachi will not be affected by the tariff raise.
