WASHINGTON: Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan signed a series of agreements with the World Bank on Tuesday to facilitate the transfer of surplus electricity from Central to South Asia.

Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Mohammed Asif signed the agreements on Pakistan’s behalf.

The inter-governmental council of Central Asia, South Asia electricity transmission and trade project held a daylong meeting in Washington, which led to the signing of a number of commercial and technical agreements.

The projects include a 750-kilometre high voltage DC line from Sangtuda, Tajikistan, to Kabul and Peshawar and the construction of a 1,300 megawatt DC-AC converter station in Peshawar.
