KARACHI: In the light of objections raised by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on the constitution of the eight-member medical board constituted to conduct a thorough medical examination of party activist Fahaz Aziz, the Sindh High Court on Friday ordered that four senior private doctors be added to the panel, DawnNews reported.

The party had objected that the medical board constituted previously comprised entirely of government doctors, adding that private doctors be included in the panel.

The board was required to submit a detailed and comprehensive report regarding the state of health and injuries that the activist might have suffered during the alleged torture.

Accepting the MQM's plea, Chief Justice Sindh High Court, Justice Maqbool Baqar, ordered the addition of four senior doctors from the Agha Khan University Hospital to the board.

The party has been alleging that Aziz was subjected to torture by the police following his arrest on Feb 8.

The case came to light when Aziz was picked up as he was on his way home after his wedding. He was allegedly subjected to torture by the police, who the MQM says demanded a bribe for his release.

MQM MPAs also staged walkouts from the Sindh Assembly in recent days to protest the arrest and alleged torture of the activist who was released on bail a day after he was picked up.
