PESHAWAR: The lawyers boycotted court proceedings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday to protest the attack of terrorists on Islamabad District Courts.
Amid the boycott of lawyers, Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Mian Fasihul Mulk said that it was necessary to properly investigate the attack in Islamabad so as to ascertain the real motive behind it.
He said that the investigation agencies should look into the matter and unearth whether the elements behind the occurrence wanted to sabotage the peace talks between the government and militants or they had any other motive.
Addressing a joint protest general body meeting of Peshawar High Court Bar Association and Peshawar Bar Association, Justice Mian Fasihul Mulk said that the elements involved in terrorism were targeting security forces as well as judiciary. He said that they had constituted a committee, headed by a senior judge of the high court, for examining security arrangements at Peshawar High Court as well as other courts across the province.
The PHC chief justice said that foolproof security measures would be adopted at all the courts so as to safeguard the lives of lawyers, judges and litigants.
He also expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for the early recovery of the injured persons. During the meeting, PHC chief justice was also accompanied by other judges of the high court including Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Nisar Hussain, Justice Qaiser Rasheed, Justice Ikramullah Khan and Justice Mussarat Hilali.
They stayed there for a while to show solidarity and unity between the bar and the bench.
The meeting, presided over by PHCBA president Ishtiaq Ibrahim, condemned the Islamabad incident and demanded of the federal and provincial governments to provide proper security to all the courts.
The meeting was addressed by Ishtiaq Ibrahim, PBA president Razaullah Khan, Abdul Lateef Afridi, Essa Khan, Astagfirullah Khan, Maulana Shamsul Haq, Saeed Akhundzada and others.
The speakers said that around 26 intelligence agencies were functioning in the country and the Islamabad attack was their failure for which their heads should be made answerable. They stated that the intelligence agencies should be reconstituted. — Bureau Report
