KARACHI: A Sindh High Court bench on Tuesday summoned the province's advocate general over a petition filed by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) against the alleged abduction and killing of its worker Muhammad Salman, DawnNews reported.

During the hearing, Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, Justice Maqbool Baqar, in his remarks suggested the setting up of a judicial inquiry commission headed by district and sessions judge (west).

The bench summoning Advocate General Sindh Abdul Fatah Malik adjourned the hearing of the case until tomorrow (Wednesday).

Father of the MQM worker had filed a petition in the provincial high court on Feb 12 alleging that extrajudicial killings were being carried out in the garb of a targeted operation to rid the city of criminal elements.

Additional IG Shahid Hayat was made respondent in the petition, filed by Salman's father who was at the time accompanied by MQM lawmaker Syed Asif Hasnain.

Hasnain had also impleaded SSPs of East and Korangi as respondents.

Moreover, the MQM had demanded that the authorities form a judicial commission to look into the alleged extrajudicial killings of party activists.

Salman, an MQM worker of Korangi Sector 75, was allegedly taken into police custody from the city’s Korangi Crossing area on Feb 3 and was found dead in a locality near Quaidabad on Feb 5.

Following a call for mourning by the party against the ‘extra-judicial killing of workers’, most parts of Karachi remained shut on Feb 8 with transport being off the roads and commercial activities suspended.
