ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday gave the government one more day to produce 35 missing persons in court, but fell short of summoning Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, DawnNews reported.

A three-member bench of the apex led by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja resumed the hearing of the missing persons case in Islamabad.

During proceedings, Justice Khawaja asked Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt regarding the progress made on the case and termed the steps taken so far as unsatisfactory.

Justice Khawaja further asked if notices should be issued against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak upon which the attorney general replied that a commission had been formed headed by Justice (retd) Mian Muhammad Ajmal and sought more time for the commission to look into the matter of missing persons.

Justice Khawaja replied that so far 34 hearings of the case had taken place and questioned if forming commissions would continue on a daily basis or would any of the missing persons be produced in court.

The court further said that the government should produce the missing persons in accordance to its earlier statement made in the court and warned that if the issue is not resolved by Wednesday, notices would be issued to the prime minister and the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The bench while granting one day's time to the government adjourned the hearing of the case until tomorrow.
