ISLAMABAD: The lawyers of the federal capital on Tuesday demanded relocation of the district courts to a safer location.

About 200 lawyers presented their demands during a ‘sit-in’ in front of the Parliament House for two hours, before dispersing peacefully.

They demanded that the district courts should immediately be shifted to the building of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in Sector G-10/1, and the high court to some other appropriate place.

It may be mentioned that the building, where IHC is functioning, was constructed to house the district courts of Islamabad in 2005.

However, in 2007, the then government allotted the building to the newly established IHC.

The lawyers also demanded resignation of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for failing to perform his duties.

Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, who also joined the lawyers’ sit in, said on the occasion that the interior minister had tried to divert the direction of the investigation.

The lawyers also warned of launching a comprehensive campaign and staging a series of protests, if their demands were not met.
