ISLAMABAD: Ulema on Friday offered help to foil ‘every conspiracy aimed at promoting sectarian violence in the country’.
Chaired by Hafiz Mohammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, the speakers at ‘Istehkam-i-Pakistan Conference’ held at Jamia Masjid Mu'az bin Jabal, I-8, particularly expressed their concern over rising incidents of rapes of women and minors, and the crime against women.
They also passed a resolution, demanding stringent law to check rape cases and bringing the perpetrators of the crime to task.
They called upon all the political and religious parties to bring a law that should allow cases of rapes, honor killings and marriages with Quran and animals be heard in anti-terror courts.
Maulana Hafiz Ashrafi, Central Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council [PUC] while reading out the resolution also said that the culprits behind the recent incidents in Chiniot, Muzaffargarh and Sanghar should be tried in anti-terror courts.
Another resolution asked the government and Taliban to continue talks and release women, children and elderly as a goodwill gesture.
The gathering condemned the Larkana incident and demanded a judicial inquiry to reach to the truth.
“It is the government’s responsibility to protect all the citizens of Pakistan whether they are Muslims or non-Muslims. The government should provide protection to people belonging to all religions and sects,” the resolution said.
Earlier in his address PUC Central Chairman Hafiz Mahmood Ashrafi welcomed the prime minister's announcement that troops were not being sent to Syria.
He said that Pakistan could not afford to be part of any foreign conflict.
