BAHAWALPUR: The Desert Rangers Force has joined the civil administration in relief operation and provided drinking water to the drought-hit people of Cholistan.
This was stated by Sector Commander of Desert Rangers, Bahawalpur, Headquarters, Brig Riaz-ul-Hassan here on Sunday.
The sector commander told Dawn that the relief operation regarding the provision of drinking water to the human population in the desert had been launched at the request of the civil administration.
He said drinking water was supplied to thousands of inhabitants staying around the Bijnot and Rhenalwala open water ponds, which had gone dry because of the dry spell. He said these two ponds were around 160kms from here.
Brig Hassan said the Rangers transported two water tanks with a capacity of 14,000 liters (7,000 liter each) after every three days to the people living at places over 100 kilometers away from here.
He said the transported water could easily meet the drinking needs of the human population at these two places as the brackish water of wells for bathing purpose and their animals was already available there.
