KARACHI: Taking notice of a tweet by PPP Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in which he said that he received a threatening letter from banned Lashkar-e-Jahngvi (LeJ), Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday night directed officials concerned to probe into the matter.

Bilawal, in the tweet, also threatened to hold the Punjab government responsible for sheltering the banned militant outfit and refusing to take any action against them in case an attack was launched against him.

Chief Minister Sharif, immediately after the development, directed the IG Punjab Police to contact Bilawal and launch a swift probe into the incident.

Later, in response to a tweet from Senator Rehman Malik in which he said LeJ’s threat to Bilawal was a violation of the ceasefire announced by the Pakistani Taliban, the Pakistan Peoples Party chief clarified that the threat was not just for him but for all PPP leaders, the government of Sindh and officers of Police and Rangers.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has been raising his voice against all militant groups specially the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ever since he declared war against them at start of his political career in December last year.

He assails the Taliban and their sympathizers for trying to drag the country back to the “stone-age.”

During the cultural festival in his home province of Sindh last month, the young Bhutto had said the Taliban wanted to impose the law of terror in the country and warned them against betraying the Constitution of Pakistan.

“We don't accept the law of terrorists. Some people are trying to bring back the stone-age era in the country in the name of Islam,” he added.
