Gangsters turn out to be former Rangers personnel

KASUR: The gunmen who had injured three officials and taken away Rs5.7 million and weapons from the Bank of Punjab in Kot Radha Kishan on Jan 6 turned out to be former Rangers’ officials.

District Police officer (DPO) Qamar Jawad told reporters in Kot Radha Kishan on Monday that Arshad and Faqeer had been involved in bank, house and highway robberies in Karachi, Hyderabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal and Kasur for the last seven years.

He said after the government launched an operation in Karachi last year, the gang moved to Punjab. He said he had made a police team consisting of inspectors Tariq Khan, Malik Muhammad Tariq, Mian Muhammad Farid, Hasan Farooq and Muhammad Shaukat to arrest the gang.

The team busted the gang and arrested Arshad and Faqeer. Both are brothers and residents of Okara. He said the two suspects were former Rangers officials and had been expelled from the Rangers due to inefficiency and abuse of power 10 years ago.

Later, the duo established a gang in Karachi, which also included the wife of Arshad. They left Karachi and started their activities in Punjab last year.

Police seized Rs1.2 million, a snatched car, a truck, four motorcycles and weapons from them.

Police are after the remaining gang members.

DROWNS: A woman drowned her infant in a tub in a fit of rage after a brawl with her husband on Monday in village Khawaran in Kot Radha Kishan, police said.

Nafees told police his wife Ishrat Bibi had a quarrel with him and later drowned one-and-a-half-month-old daughter Nida in the tub.

Police registered a case against her.

KILLED: A woman and her two year-old-son died in a road accident while her husband suffered injuries on Monday near village Jhonayki in the jurisdiction of Raja Jang police station.

Nasir along with his wife, Parveen Bibi, and a two-year-old son, whose name could not be ascertained, was traveling on a motorcycle which crashed with a tractor-trolley near village Jhonayki. Parveen and the son died at the scene while Nasir suffered serious injuries. The driver fled.

Meanwhile, a man died when his own pistol went off on Monday in Langriawala.

The victim was identified as Muhammad Asif.
