RAWALPINDI: President Mamnoon Hussain has welcomed the initiative aimed at expanding the scope of the Armed Forced Institute of Rehabilitation Medicines (AFIRM) to accommodate more civilian cases.
Mr Hussain said this during a visit to AFIRM here on Saturday.
The president, who was received by Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, was given a briefing on the role and contribution of AFIRM in rehabilitation of soldiers who lost their limbs while taking part in military operations.
The president inaugurated the Artificial Limbs and Appliances Centre which would cater for the needs of both military and civilians affected by accidents, calamities, violence and improvised explosive devices.
He paid tribute to the valiant sons of the soil for having displayed extreme courage and determination in fighting all challenges to ensure security of the motherland, even at the cost of their limbs.
The president appreciated the concerted efforts by Pakistan Army to transform AFIRM into a premier rehabilitative medicine institute with all specialties available under one roof, and welcomed the initiative to expand the scope of the institute to accommodate more civilian cases.
Earlier, the president laid a wreath at the Yadgar-i-Shuhada at the General Headquarters and offered prayers for martyrs.
