LAHORE: A 22-year-old married woman suffered burns as three people, including her alleged rapist, threw acid on her on Multan Road on Tuesday.
The victim, a resident of Mandi Stop, was admitted to Jinnah Hospital.
Sadar SP Awais Malik said the woman was standing at Mandi Stop when the suspects threw acid on her and fled from the scene. He said the victim had suffered up to three per cent burns.
The SP said the victim had identified the suspects, saying one of them had also raped her some time ago. He said police would register a case soon after receiving a written statement by the woman and that the suspects were still at large.
The Hanjarwal police had earlier registered a rape case against the identified suspect on the woman’s complaint.
On the other hand, Rescue 1122 sources said two men and a woman approached the woman on a motorcycle and threw acid on her.
The woman received up to 30 per cent burns in the attack but her face remained safe, they said, adding the victim had received burns on an arm and a leg.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and sought a report from the capital city police chief. He also issued orders for the arrest of the attackers and the best medical treatment to the victim.
