RAWALPINDI: A meeting of the army’s top brass, chaired by Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif (COAS), is underway at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, DawnNews reported.
The meeting is focusing on the country’s internal security situation. Moreover, the internal and external threats to national security are also being reviewed in the meeting.
The security situation on western borders is also being discussed.
Separately, the meeting is focusing on ongoing peace talks between the government and the Taliban.
The timing of the meeting was seen as important after Gen Raheel’s comments at a Special Services Group base in Tarbela that the army would “resolutely preserve its own dignity and institutional pride” sent shockwaves in government circles.
