KARACHI: A lawyer was shot dead on Thursday when unidentified armed men opened fire on his car in Karachi’s Gulshan i Iqbal area, DawnNews reported.

The deceased was identified as Advocate Waqar Shah.

Waqar Shah was gunned down while he was on his way to the court after leaving his house.

He was the vice president of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Lawyers Wing.

Following the incident, the lawyers association boycotted the court proceeding in protest against the advocate’s killing.

His body was immediately shifted to Jinnah Hospital.

According to the Hospital sources, he was shot on head and chest.

Subsequently, Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar took notice of Shah's killing and directed the inspector general of Sindh police to submit a report of the incident.

At least 15 suspects arrested during a raid in the city

The CID police conducted a targeted operation in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area on Thursday and detained 15 suspects and recovered weapons, DawnNews reported.

The raid was carried out against the kidnappers in Sohrab Goth's Al-Sadaf Colony.

Meanwhile, they also recovered four hand grenades, seven Kalashnikovs and nine TT pistols from their possession.

The investigation with the suspects is underway.

Karachi is home to multiple conflicts that frequently turn violent, including gang wars and ethnic and political rivalries. Militants are said to use the city as a hiding place and a source of funds obtained through bank heists, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.
