PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has demanded of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take notice of the decisions of State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali regarding disconnection of power supply because such steps are creating law and order problems in the province.

Provincial minister-designate for industries Shaukat Ali Yousafzai on Saturday strongly condemned disconnection of power feeders in the province by the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company and asked the federal government and Pesco to reconnect such feeders immediately as it had created huge problems for the innocent people paying their electricity bills regularly.

Offering support to the federal government against electricity thieves, Mr Yousafzai said that the provincial government would never support those involved in stealing of electricity. However, he said that the federal government was duty bound to take action across the board in the country.

In a statement, the minister said that depriving innocent people of their rights was an injustice and highly condemnable, which could not be tolerated. He said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was producing electricity and had been facing terrorism since last one decade. He said that the federal government was creating a sense of deprivation among masses through its anti-people initiatives like disconnection of gas and electricity supply.

Mr Yousafzai said that the federal government and Wapda were still to pay a huge sum of arrears of net hydel profit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and in such a situation the disconnection of feeders was the proof of their Pakhtun enmity.

He said that people of Bisham were paying their power bills regularly and following disconnection of electricity they had been creating hurdles and law and order at Shahra-i-Resham. He urged the prime minister to take notice of Abid Sher’s statements and decisions.

“If the federal government does not want to provide incentives to the affected Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, at least it should not create problems for the provincial government,” he concluded.
