QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has conceded that there are law and order problems in Panjgur, Kech and Kacchi districts and said that the government is taking measures to curb the lawlessness.

The chief minister was responding to a question raised by treasury bench member Mir Asim Kurb during a session of the Balochistan Assembly on Tuesday.

The session was presided over by Speaker Mir Jan Mohammad Jamali.

Dr Malik Baloch, however, regretted that Mr Kurd levelled allegations against the government without providing evidence.

Mr Kurd in his address accused the government of “giving a licence to kill to some people in some areas of the Kacchi district”. He said murder of innocent people was a routine matter in the district.

The chief minister rejected Mr Kurd’s claims and said that irresponsible statements by legislators could further complicate the situation. The government was taking measures to improve the security situation in the province and would not allow anyone to create law and order problems, he added.

The house unanimously passed a resolution to condemn the attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir and demanded an impartial inquiry.

The resolution was tabled by Leader of the Opposition Maulana Abdul Wasay and Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Sardar Abdur Rahman Khetran and Mir Majibur Rahman spoke on it.

The house admitted an adjournment motion moved by Zamarak Khan Achakzai pertaining to law and order situation in the province. The resolution would be discussed on April 23.

On point of order Syed Liaquat Agha said that the Haj quota for Baluchistan had been withdrawn. He requested the chief minister to take up the matter with the relevant department of the federal government for restoring the Haj quota for pilgrims in Baluchistan.

The session was adjourned for Wednesday.
