Shah, Asif discuss tension between state institutions

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah met with Defence Minister Khawaja Asif today during which alleged tension between the country’s institutions and the issue of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf rallies were discussed, DawnNews reported

Asif said that the government would not take any steps that would reduce the prestige of democracy or institutions

On the occasion, Shah said the Parliament was the supreme most institution in the country.

He said that the opposition could not support any move which would undermine the dignity of the Parliament and its elected representatives.

The opposition leader underscored that sacrifices made by politicians for the sake of democracy would not be rendered to waste, adding that they were not obligated to follow any one's undemocratic desires.

Shah said the role played by the opposition for the continuation of democracy was admirable.

Speaking to media representatives later, the opposition leader said that he had discussed the issue of load shedding and Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) with Asif.

Shah said that according to the Defence Minister, Sindh had liabilities towards Wapda and added that assurances were given that the problem would be resolved through contact with the Sindh government.

He said transformers of those villages, which were involved in electricity theft, could be taken into custody.
