LAHORE: In its drive to recover dues, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) on Wednesday disconnected supplies to 66 government offices and departments for failing to clear their bills.
According to Lesco officials, the defaulters included Punjab police, SSP office, Punjab Highways Authority, District Council Hall, District Government Health office and Irrigation EXEN, besides the residence of Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal.
“Some of these offices have not paid their dues for years,” says a Lesco official.
For example, the irrigation executive engineer had defaulted on Rs31 million payment, the Archeology Department Rs2.3 million, the Wagah Town TMO Rs7.6 million, Shalamar TMO Rs1.6 million, the LDA (UD Wing) chief engineer Rs5.9 million and the Passenger and Freight district officer Rs119 million.
“All these offices now face disconnection and the supply will not be restored unless they clear their dues,” he warned.
The ministry has asked the Lesco officials to indiscriminately disconnect connections of all those who are not paying their bills.
