QUETTA: The National Party’s parliamentary leader in the National Assembly, Sardar Kamal Khan Bangulzai, has urged engineers to help ease the current power crisis by developing solar energy projects on modern lines.

Addressing as chief guest the 23rd general meeting of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) here on Thursday, he said the energy crisis was deepening with the passage of time. Besides badly affecting the industry, agriculture and other sectors, it was hampering the overall production process in the country.

Chairman of the PEC Syed Abdul Qadir Shah, Vice-Chairman of the Balochistan Engineering Council Usman Babai, Engineer Zahid Arif, Engineer Mukhtiar Ali Sheikh and others also spoke on the occasion.

Sardar Bangulzai said the agriculture sector was at the brink of disaster because of power crisis.

The government, he added, would extend all possible assistance to engineers to develop solar energy projects.

He said that growers were utilising different means to save their crops and fruit orchards, but with the passage of time, underground water level was depleting and because of long duration of loadshedding they were unable to get sufficient water to irrigate their land.

While referring to the problems being faced by the engineers, the NP leader said, the government would take all possible steps to resolve their issues. However, he made it crystal clear, that appointment of engineers would be made purely on merit.

He said that engineers belonging to Balochistan should also come forward and work with dedication to resolve the issues being faced by the province.
