QUETTA: Two people were injured in a bomb blast that hit a goods train on Monday in Balochistan's Dalbandin area, Levies officials told Dawn.
The attack also damaged the railway track and a section of the train, Levies official Muhammad Riaz told Dawn via telephone.
Riaz said militants targeted the goods train using a remote-controlled bomb when it was passing through Dalbandin’s Peshuk area.
He said two people inside the train were injured as result.
“The incident happened on the Pak-Iran Railway line. The goods train was on its way from Quetta towards Iran when it was attacked. The train service was suspended after the attack,” he added.
Police and Levies personnel reached the spot as an investigation into the incident went underway. The bomb disposal squad was also called in to sweep the entire track to avert another untoward incident.
Militants have been targeting the Pak-Iran railway track for over a decade now.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for today’s attack. However, Riaz said officials suspect Baloch separatists to be behind the attack.
