MULTAN: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 judge handed down on Monday life imprisonment on two counts to three accused and imposed a Rs1.1 million fine each for killing a man in an acid attack in Sahiwal in 2012.

According to the prosecution, Muhammad Afzal, Liaquat and Abdur Razzaq trespassed on the residence of Muhammad Ramazan and threw acid on him at Chak 117/9-L on April 13, 2012.

Muhammad Ramzan received severe burns on his eyes, head, arms, belly and later died during treatment, some four months after the attack. His brother Shahnawaz lodged a case against Mukhtaran, Afzal, Liaquat and Abdur Razzaq at Kameer police station.

The court, however, acquitted Mukhtaran Mai of charges. The convict would undergo additional three-year imprisonment on default of fine.

Another life imprisonment was handed down to them with a Rs100,000 fine each under section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code. They will undergo additional six-month jail in case of default.
