LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday declared the federal government’s response incomplete over an application pertaining to threats received by cable operators, DawnNews reported.
Khalid Arain, president of Cable Operators Association, submitted the application in the LHC which presented the stance that cable operators were being threatened for not running Geo TV on initial numbers.
The application said that the court should provide cable operators with security.
It also stated that cable was the source of livelihood for cable operators and if this problem persisted, then it would be difficult for them to continue to work.
The court ordered the government, inspector general Punjab Khan Baig and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to submit detailed replies within 15 days and subsequently adjourned the hearing of the case.
Speaking to media representatives after the hearing, Arain said they were bound to run governmental, health and Islamic channels on initial numbers but added that they were receiving death threats for not running Geo on initial numbers.
Cable operators and Geo media group have been involved in a full-scale verbal and ‘operative’ war after the latter levelled allegations against the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and accused its chief Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam of being involved in the attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir in Karachi.
