KOTLI: Mortar shells were allegedly fired by personnel from the Indian army on Friday in the Nakial and Hot Spring sectors of Azad Kashmir, DawnNews reported.
Two casualties were reported in the incident near the Line of Control (LoC), the UN-monitored de facto border dividing the Himalayan territory of Kashmir between India and Pakistan. The region is claimed in full by both countries.
A short statement from ISPR spokesman said that the firing by Indian troops injured two civilians.
The spokesman further said that the Pakistani troops responded to Indian firing effectively.
The incident comes against the backdrop of recently initiated lukewarm relations between the premiers of both the countries.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had recently written a letter to his newly elected Indian counterpart Narendra Modi saying he was looking forward to working with him in harmony to resolve all unsettled matters in the interest of the two nations.

The last incident of ceasefire violation was reported on April 28 in the Kothra sub-sector near Kotli.
Ceasefire violations along the LoC continue periodically, with casualties reported on both sides of the border.
In December last year, Pakistan and India had pledged to uphold the 2003 LoC ceasefire accord which had been left in tatters by repeated violations. Both countries have engaged in allegations, denials and counter allegations over the firing incidents.
The directors general of military operations (DGMOs) of the two countries had agreed to a number of steps to keep the ceasefire accord intact.
