MUZAFFARGARH: On the orders of the federal law ministry, police on Sunday restored security at the checkpost outside the house of Mukhtaran Mai in her hometown Mirwala.

On Saturday, she had said the policemen deployed at a checkpost outside her home had been withdrawn. She complained to the police high-ups against the move and also sent an application to the law and interior ministries for redeployment of security. She said the measure had made her insecure in the circumstances that her alleged rapists had been freed by the Supreme Court. She also stated that policemen had been withdrawn without informing her.

District Police Officer Rai Zameerul Haq said he had not issued orders for withdrawing the policemen, adding that the officials were permanently deployed at the checkpost at Mirwala.

A checkpost was set up at Mirwala in 2002 on the orders of the then Governor Khalid Maqbool.
