GUJRANWALA: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has gifted an old aircraft F-7 to the people of Gujranwala which is being installed near the Model Town crossing on GT Road.
A meeting chaired by Gujranwala Division Commissioner Shumail Ahmad Khwaja had decided to request the PAF authorities for the provision of an old aircraft to be installed in the city as part of the beautification project.
GDA Director-General Syed Hasan Raza Jaffry wrote to the PAF authorities which accepted the request and sent the aircraft to the site in a trailer.
The GDA authorities say the process of installation of the aircraft will be completed within a few days.
FORENSIC LABS: The Punjab government has decided to establish forensic laboratories at the divisional level to improve investigation in criminal cases.
The authority concerned has been directed to identify the land for setting up a laboratory in Gujranwala and also finalise the expenditures, Dawn learnt here on Monday.
District Officer (Building) Mairajul Islam said his office had asked the Revenue Officer (City) to identify a piece of land required for the purpose.
He said the process of estimation of cost of the building and the equipment would be finalised as soon as the Revenue Department identified the land.
He said the allocation of funds and the construction work would be started immediately after the Punjab government approved the project.
Around 100 police stations in the Gujranwala region and hundreds of others in Punjab rely on the sole forensic science laboratory established in Lahore that waste a lot of time in finalisation of investigation in criminal cases.
HONOUR KILLING: A youth shot dead his 22-year-old sister for the sake of ‘honour’ near Barywala Chowk here on Sunday night.
Reports said Mahnoor of Minhaspura went missing from her house while her brother Hasan and other family members started searching for her.
It was learnt that accused Hasan found his sister near Barywala Chowk on Sunday night. In a fit of rage, he shot her dead on the spot.
Model Town police shifted the body to DHQ Hospital for an autopsy and started investigation.
