BAHAWALPUR: A 12-year-old girl died and two women were injured seriously when a man opened fire over rejection of his marriage proposal at Nawabpura village near Jhangiwala on Wednesday.
According to police sources, suspect Imam Bakhsh wanted to marry Salma Bibi, daughter of Nazeeran Bibi, who had refused the marriage proposal.
On Wednesday, the suspect arrived at Nazeeran Bibi’s house and again demanded the hand of her daughter. Nazeeran Bibi again rejected the proposal.
At this, Imam Bakhsh opened indiscriminate fire. As a result, Sumera, 12, a niece of Nazeeran, was hit by a bullet and died on the spot.
Nazeeran Bibi and her daughter Salma Bibi who were seriously injured in the firing were admitted to Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur, where they were said to be critical.
The suspect fled the crime scene.
Cantonment police registered a case against Imam Bakhsh and were conducting raids for his arrest.
