ISLAMABAD: A total of 842 candidates have submitted nomination papers to contest the Aug 22 by-elections on 42 seats of national and four provincial assemblies, says a spokesman for the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The spokesman said that 339 candidates had submitted their papers for 16 seats of the National Assembly and 503 had filed nominations for 26 seats of provincial assemblies.
He said 323 candidates had filed their papers for 15 seats of the Punjab Assembly, 92 for four seats of the Sindh Assembly, 38 for four seats of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and 50 for three seats of the Balochistan Assembly.
Meanwhile, the ECP has asked political parties to submit statements of their annual accounts by Aug 29.
