RAWALPINDI, July 17: Three people, including a three-year-old boy, were killed and six others were injured when two trees fell on a passenger wagon near Kahuta on Wednesday.
The accident occurred when the Azad Kashmir bound passenger wagon (RPT-5633) reached Kahuta where two heavy trees planted along the road collapsed on the wagon, killing three of the passengers on the spot and injuring six others.
All three passengers seated in the front, and included the wagon driver Wajid Hussain, 35, Basheer Ahmed, 25, and three-year-old Hamza Sajid.
Shortly afterwards, the emergency services Rescue-1122 staff and the police arrived at the scene and rescued the victims trapped in the wreckage of the wagon.
The injured, including Hamza Sajid’s mother Ms Najma Sajid, were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) where one of them is stated to be in a critical condition.
According to preliminary police investigation, the two trees had been uprooted due to Wednesday’s early morning downpour.
They fell on the ill-fated passenger wagon. “All those killed in the accident were sitting in the front as the trees fell on the front side of the wagon,” Sub-Inspector Ijaz Shah told Dawn.
