HYDERABAD: A Jordanian student of Palestinian origin was kidnapped on Wednesday night by three occupants of a car in the jurisdiction of Nasim Nagar police station. No FIR has so far been lodged.
Reports said that Mohammad Jamil and Yusuf Abu Dakka, both final year students of bio medical engineering Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), were going to visit their friend, Mohammad Shaheen in Nasim Nagar.
“They were coming to visit us on their bike. They live in Jamshoro and when they reached Nasim Nagar area, one of them was kidnapped,” said their friend Badar Aqil, a final year MBBS student of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS).
He said over the phone that according to Mohammad Yusuf, three armed motorcyclists intercepted Yusuf and Mohammad Jamil.
In the meantime a Mehran car also arrived there and hit them, as a result of which they fell on the ground.
“Yousuf told us that they forced Jamil into the vehicle and since there was no space inside the car they left Yousuf and whisked away,” said Badar.
A delegation of students met DIG police Hyderabad range Akram Naeem Barokha and SSP Hyderabad Saqib Ismail Memon separately on Wednesday.
A team of police officials took Yousuf to the scene of the incident in Nasim Nagar after the meeting.
SSP Memon said said that it does not look like an incident of kidnapping for ransom.
“We are looking into all possibilities,” he said and added an FIR would be lodged soon.
SSP Hyderabad has formed a team of police officials that also visited the place of incident. It is learnt that a diplomat of Jordan is likely to meet police officials in Hyderabad sometime on Thursday night or on Friday.
SHO police station Nasim Nagar, Kareem Abbasi said that he had visited Jamshoro where he was living and has met his acquaintances.
He explained he could not be kidnapped for ransom because the kidnappers must know that these people usually do not have such a large amount of money with them to pay for his release. No FIR is so far lodged by his friend, he added.
A senior police officer hinted at the possibility of involvement of a banned organisation said to be involved in a bomb blast on SSP office premises on July 12.
“We have credible reports, though we are still verifying them, that activists of that banned organisation are trying to pressurise us by kidnapping the foreign national after we have picked up their men in connection with the blasts.
"They apparently want to pressurise us so that we release those suspects,” he said.
He added another possibility is the involvement of the hostage with some girl is also being looked into.
