ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday disqualified Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid’s member Punjab Assembly Samina Khawar Hayat in a fake degree case.
Earlier on July 10, a three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, had reserved its judgment in the fake degree case against Hayat.
Announcing its ruling today, the court cancelled her notification of being elected as an MPA and said Hayat could not prove that her degree was authentic.
The apex court also directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to cancel her the notification pertaining to her election victory and start criminal proceedings against her.
It is pertinent to mention here that during the last hearing, the apex court was told that in 2008, Hayat had obtained a degree of Riphah University which was bogus.
After that, Hayat had presented a degree from the Preston University which was also determined as fake.
