Ban Ki-Moon discusses LoC tension with Sartaj Aziz

ISLAMABAD: Secretary General United Nations Ban Ki-Moon and Advisor to the prime minister on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz Tuesday reviewed developmental projects of the world body, Pakistan's role in the International Peace Force and tension prevailing on the Line of Control between Pakistan and India.

According to foreign office, the UN chief, who is visiting Pakistan along with senior UN officials, held detailed talks with Sartaj Aziz.

The minister for petroleum and natural resources, the foreign secretary and senior officials of the ministry of foreign affairs were also present during the talks.

Both sides discussed a wide range of issues on the United Nations agenda. Regional and global political and security situation was also discussed.

The adviser reaffirmed the government's commitment towards constructive engagement with the United Nations on a host of issues including international peace and security, development, human rights and climate change.

The adviser said that Pakistan attached high importance to the United Nations as the premier multilateral institution.

Lauding Pakistan's role as a leading troop contributing country in the UN Peace-keeping operations, the secretary general expressed appreciation for Pakistan's active and constructive role in this regard.

He acknowledged Pakistan's sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and appreciated the resolve of the government in fighting terrorism.

The UN chief is scheduled to meet Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday. He will attend the August 14 Flag Hoisting Ceremony and then will meet President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday.
