TIMERGARA: Residents of Dapoor village in Maidan on Wednesday demanded of the government to rebuild the high school which was blown up by militants in 2009.

Talking to journalists here, the elders, including Malik Fateh Rahman, Malik Ayub Khan, Malik Gul Zaman, Ghulam Rahim and Mohammad Azam, said over 300 students, including 80 girls, had been suffering as the government had failed to rebuild the lone high school of the village.

They said the students were sent back to homes during rains and sizzling heat.

“Since there is no high school for girls in the nearby area so they have to be enrolled at this school, which is against the local norms,” they said.

The elders said the school was being run by only six teachers as seven key posts were lying vacant for long time. They said the school also lacked basic facilities like clean drinking water, furniture and latrines.

The area elders said the PTI-led provincial government’s claim to reform the existing education system was not being realised.

“Rebuilding the government high school Dapoor will be a test case for the present rulers,” they said.

The local people demanded of the government to establish a middle school for girls in the area.

SAFETY SEMINAR: The Pesco deputy manager (operation), Lower Dir, Mohammad Riaz Kakar has directed linemen to wear safety tools while removing faults from lines.

Addressing a safety seminar at the SDO office Chakdara, he asked them to take every precautionary measure before starting work on faulty lines. He said linemen ignoring those measures would be punished.

Meanwhile, residents of Kotigram Adenzai complained that their village has been without power for many days as Pesco failed to repair a faulty 100kv transformer.

They said the local lawmaker and provincial minister Bakht Baidar Khan and Pesco officials had been informed about the problem but to no avail. They warned to take to streets if the transformer was not repaired.
