KARACHI: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan has called for a contact between the government and Taliban before initiation of any formal dialogue.

Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, Mr Hasan said that without establishing a contact first the talks could never be successful. He asked the government to unveil details of the operations conducted by the army in Swat, Buner and other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Jamaat chief sought a ‘clear message’ from the Taliban about the nature of guarantees the banned outfit wanted from his party.

Before agreeing to facilitate the government-Taliban dialogue, the Jamaat wanted to see clarity in the Taliban’s proposal and find out what types of guarantees they were expecting from the party, Mr Hasan added.

Mr Hasan held what he called the ‘weak policy’ of the PML-N government responsible for Indian aggression and consistent violation of the Line of Control, saying the ‘soft reaction’ had encouraged the neighbouring country to take a tough position.

“The security challenges faced by Pakistan are the result of Indian intervention in Balochistan and other parts of the country,” he said.
