QUETTA: Expressing concern over the poor law and order situation in the province, members of the Balochistan Assembly asked the provincial government on Tuesday to frame a concrete policy for countering growing incidents of terrorism and extremism.
Opening the debate on the law and order in the house, which met with Deputy Speaker Mir Quddus Bizenjo in the chair, Jaffar Khan Mandokhel said that levelling allegations on each other by the treasury and the opposition would serve no purpose and that the government should take concrete steps to restore peace and the writ of the state.
He said the security situation was not satisfactory, adding that some international forces had made the province a battleground for their interests. Sectarianism was on the rise and incidents of terrorism and robberies had become the order of the day, he regretted.
Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch assured the house that suggestions given by lawmakers would be kept in view while formulating a policy on the security situation.
He, however, noted that the opposition leader had not given any suggestion in his speech and asked opposition members to come up with suggestions on Wednesday.
Leader of Opposition Maulana Wasay said the security situation was deteriorating because of the absence of a clear-cut policy on the issue. He asked the government to use all resources to curb lawlessness in the province.
He said hundreds of people had lost their lives in bomb blasts and targeted killings and dozens of mutilated bodies had been found in the province since the formation of the new government.
Criticising the government, Haji Gul Mohammad Domarh said it had failed in bringing the situation under control. He said the performance of Frontier Corps was not satisfactory.
Mir Karim Nausherwani said the government cannot be held responsible for the current situation and added that security had been deteriorated due to wrong policies of former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf.
Shahida Rauf and Yasmeen Lehri urged the government to take steps for improving the law and order.
The house witnessed uproar when members of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl exchanged hot words.
The JUI-F members wanted the house to start debate on the privilege motion moved by Nasrullah Zeray, while PkMAP members insisted that discussion should begin on an adjournment motion moved by an opposition member on law and order.
After the commotion lasting about an hour, the chair ruled that discussion on privilege motion would be held in Wednesday’s session.
The chief minister, referring to a question raised by a member, said that a committee headed by Manzoor Kakar would hold in consultation with the revenue department an inquiry into a land dispute between local tribesmen and army estate officials.
Responding to an adjournment motion tabled by Maulana Mufti Gulab, the chief minister said the health secretary had been directed to provide vaccine and medicine for flood-affected people of Nasirabad, Barkhan and Zhob to tackle snakebite cases and spread of diseases.
The session was adjourned till Wednesday.
