LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Friday restrained the Federal Film Censor Board from issuing certificates for the exhibition of films made in India, DawnNews reported.
Petitioners contended that damage to Pakistan’s film industry was irreparable due to the screening of Indian films and added that the court should order a ban on them.
The certificates permitted the exhibition of Indian films in the country.
Earlier on Nov 19, a petitioner had pointed out that at least 213 Indian movies had been exhibited in Pakistan since 2006 after obtaining certificates from the authorities on the basis of fake documents.
LHC judge Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan issued an order today saying that the Censor Board in Pakistan should stop issuing certificates until further notice.
The court subsequently adjourned the case and has sought a reply from the federal government and Censor Board.
