ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday said that no formal negotiations were being held with the Taliban yet and most of the media reports on the issue were speculative and baseless.

In a statement, he said negotiations with the Taliban was a very sensitive and complex issue and media should avoid disseminating unauthentic reports in this regard.

He said the government had made its strategy for holding negotiations with the Taliban, which would be finalised in consultation with political parties.

Chaudhry Nisar said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would visit Karachi next week.

After the visit, he said, the chiefs of political parties, who have representation in Parliament, would be taken into confidence on the strategy to establish peace.

He said the government would not conceal anything from the people. It was heartening to note that the country's political parties were on one page as far as establishment of lasting peace in the country was concerned, he added.

Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan had also opened its door for dialogue and peace, Nisar said.
